Some of the Things We Do

Over the last three and a half years, we have worked with a wide range of businesses from legal publishers, textile retailers and luxury estate agencies on the business support side of N3RD. At the same time, over the last two and a half years, we have worked with a number of technology-based start-ups from movie and music streaming applications to education platforms.

In this time, we have gained immeasurable experience in a wide range of services that we can help you with. These number only a few of the most frequent, if it is innovative, creative, technical or marketing orientated, the likeliness is that we have done.

  • Technical Requirements

  • Budgeting

We work collaboratively with you to find your needs. We ask key questions and add insight from a fresh perspective prior to the development of a plan / scope / strategy so that whatever we are working with you on, can benefit from our distinct experience right from the start.

We plan out the who, what, when, where, why and how much, so all stakeholders have visibility on the road ahead.

Web & Mobile Interface & Experience

Creating an experience that works for your customers as well as you

  • Goal Setting
  • Experience Benchmarking
  • Theory Review
  • Wireframing

Interface Design (UI)

  • Planning
  • Mood Boarding
  • Look & Feel
  • Template Rollout
  • Art Direction and Assets

We combine best practises for User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design into a single service so you get a website, mobile application or web platform that works well, while looking good and on brand.

For UX, we plan your goals, benchmark them against the best in modern theories and develop them collaboratively with you through a set of wireframes.

For UI, we define the style that will match your requirements against a number of factors, including brand positioning, industry and interface value to name a few. Over a process of mood boarding, look and feel development and template rollout, we deliver just the right mix of UI and UX to maximise the value of the service that we deliver.

New or Developed Brand Identity

Who are you?

Branding

  • Positioning Statements
  • Brand Values
  • Naming Conventions
  • Brand Strategy
  • Logo Design

A good brand defines who you are, it is the first part of a conversation when you hand over a business card, it is that brand colour that sticks in your mind, and it differentiates you from your competitors.

A good brand takes into account the who, what, when, where and why. It provides a consistent message and leverages the quality of your business against all the other businesses in your market. Whether you are creating a brand from scratch, or you are updating an existing brand, we can help over the complete range of brand services that we have available.

Print & Graphic Design

For that messaging best delivered physically

  • Development
  • Voice Over

We have developed promotional, demonstrational and brand re-enforcement animations, both for 2D and 3D. We work with you to plan out the animation from storyboarding and look and feel to key framing. Animation development is one of the only digital services we don’t manage in-house, instead we opt to work with a number of trusted suppliers that we’ve developed successful animations for in the past.

Inbound Marketing

  • Strategy
  • Implementation
  • SEM / SEM / PPC
  • Email Marketing
  • Press Releases
  • Copy Writing
  • Banner Advertising

We service startups and businesses providing a number of key solutions for marketing and advertising. For all marketing and advertising related services, we can either work with you from the outset, defining goals, setting targets and optimising spend to achieve the maximum Return on Investment (ROI), or we can work responsively with briefs given to us.

For traffic generation, we work with the traditional Three Letter Acronyms (TLA): Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Pay Per Click (PPC).

For both generating traffic, but delivering key messaging and call to actions in the process, we work with email marketing, banner advertising, press releases, art direction and copywriting.

Business Support

Incubation with Innovation

Business Support

  • Conception / Validation
  • Business Sales / Marketing
  • Office Space

More applicable to our startup clients, we have a wealth of experience in creating a business out of an idea. We can work with you at every stage of your business from conception, development, launch and beyond.

How closely we work with you on this is up to you, we’ve worked on a feedback only basis, with businesses bouncing ideas of us, right through to complete integration, and have hosted several startups in our office over the last few years.

Investment support

Starting a business costs money. Do you have enough?

Internal Investment

  • Based on reduction in fees

External Investment

  • Planning and structuring a pitch
  • Collaborative presentation of pitches to investors
  • Introduction to our network of investors

Starting a business costs money. There are the salaries, development costs, marketing, office space, recruitment, ink for the printer (and the printer) and they all add up. Fast.

We can help on two levels. The first, is for the right businesses that fit a number of our criteria, we have an investment arm that will seed a portion of the fees for the design and development of the platform.

The second, is that when a business is ready we can help prepare and pitch to new investors with you as well as introduce you to the network of investors that we have developed over the years working in the startup community.

Process for businesses

Back in the early days when we were just getting started, N3RD got its feet wet by utilizing our creative and technical skillsets to be one of the most responsive and reliable agencies in London; responding to briefs and exceeding expectations.

These days we still do that (hey, everyone needs something in a hurry!), but the team and the business has evolved and matured to a point where we are very proud of what we can offer to our clients strategically.

That means using our experience to make sure the marketing campaigns (whether it be a rebrand, app development, site launch, video marketing campaign, or just a series of emails) are successful as possible. And the nice thing is, the way we have grown means that once that strategy and planning has been developed, we execute in-house, in a way that many other agencies can not do. A one-stop shop that makes business owners or marketers lives a lot easier.

Strategy

So we're a bit of an ideas factory (don’t tell anyone, but it’s the most fun part of the job), however we do understand you have goals and requirements that need to be developed before we get going. Our senior creative and accounts team work with you to help establish your goals for the campaign.

These goals can be anything from creating an online presence to increasing brand perception as well as generating online leads and sales.

At this step, we also gain insights into your customers, the competitive landscape, and can start to establish a budget as well as throw some timelines on the table for good measure.

Scoping

OK, now we really get going. With a strategy in place and a holistic view of your needs, the business environment, target customers and budget we can start getting creative and put on our project management hat at the same time.

It’s here that N3RD really starts to excel, our team have been working together long enough to make sure we get that perfect mix of innovation, creative and technical, whilst having a lean and mean cost and time balance (a little something we picked up from working with boot strapped start-ups.)

Planning at this stage is essential. We work with you to develop the process, put the structure in place, schedule out the development and establish the execution strategy.

Campaign Development

With the say-so from you, we begin what we do best, developing an effective campaign strategy. Make sure you check out our services page to get a full overview of everything we offer, but trust me, these competencies come together to build a campaign that is designed to achieve your goals set during the strategy phase.

Our creative team works closely to develop UX, UI, and Brand Identity through a thorough process of mood boarding, developing look and feel, conceptualizing and finalizing, before handing off to our talented team of developers to make it ‘digital’.

The nice thing about having everything in house too, is that we can continue to refine and tweak as the campaign is developed (our creative and technical directors are within yelling distance of each other – albeit at opposite ends of the office) which means continual optimisation right up to launch date.

Execution and Implementation

Right. We worked through the night, but we got there. It’s all signed off and it’s time for you to launch the campaign.

Maybe it’s a soft launch of an app, maybe we had to get the designs for your new conference booth (the best in show) off to production before yesterday, but we don’t let up yet. It’s here that all the planning and project management pays off.

If you’re launching your new product up the top of the Gherkin, or distributing messaging to 50,000 people in your email database (we’ve done both); we’re not going anywhere. N3RD will continue to provide support and assistance until you’re happy, and so are we.

Evaluation and Optimization

The dust has settled a little bit, we all got some sleep it’s time for a review.

We’re perfectionists (didn’t you know?) so it’s time to measure the campaign success using data we have collected throughout the campaign and benchmark it against our goals.

It’s time for a catchup too and not just at the pub. We like to have a proper sit down with all our clients to talk through the campaign in detail; what went right, what we could do differently, and what could be optimized for next time.

Speaking of next time, maybe we could start talking about that too….

Process for startups

Over the last two years, we have worked with many successful start-ups, from peer-to-peer marketplaces to international entertainment industries. Because we work with both new and existing start-ups as well as small and large corporate clients, we are able to cross pollinate the best from both so that you are getting world class services from our lovely agency.

What follows is a brief overview of how we engage with you and utilize our expertise not only to get the most out of our team, but ensure a successful business as well.

Planning and Scoping

Before any new project is started, big or small, we work with you to develop a plan of everything that we are going to do together over the coming months. When we say everything, we mean EVERYTHING. From the validation of your business model (if you want an experienced set of eyes to review it), to how the reply thread in your comment on the thirteenth page of a seventeen page layout will function.

From creative to technical development, management to execution and finally to launch and review.

We take pre-engagement planning very seriously. Our project specifications form the basis of our relationship. It tells you exactly in fine detail what we are going to do, how we are going to do it, how long it’s going to take and how much it’s going to cost.

As a business that builds successful startups, this can be limited to the creative and the technical development of your concept, but often exceeds much more than that. We can help you validate your business, the opportunity, the weaknesses, the strengths and the competitors.

In addition to this, prior to entering into a formal arrangement with you, we work together to define the entire project, beginning to end.

For us, it provides a benchmark as to what your expectations are. For you, it’s the beginning of your dream becoming a reality.

Interface & Experience

Creating an experience that works for your customers as well as you.

The combination of experience and interface design into a single development phase is key in ensuring both you and your customers get what you need from the platform that we are developing together.

Together, we define your goals, the processes within the platform, your client needs, and the conversion goals that you have. We work this into a wireframe and benchmark it against the latest in experience theories to ensure that the interface we are about to develop is going to suit everyone’s needs best.

Once we have developed a set of experientially optimized structures for your platform, we work together to define how it is going to look.

The look of your platform is just as important as the experience. It defines how your existing and prospective customers view you and your platform and what quality it is. It even tells your customers the value that you place in them.

From here it’s a matter of rolling out the designs by matching look and feel with the wireframes, you can really feel it start to take shape.

Brand Identity

A good brand is not just a snazzy logo with a catchy strapline. A good brand defines who you are, it is the first part of a conversation when you hand over a business card, it is that brand colour that sticks in your mind, and it differentiates you from your competitors.

And with startups, it’s all about first impressions. A good brand takes into account the who, what, when, where and why. It provides a consistent message and leverages the quality of your business against all the other businesses in your market.

We will help you develop your positioning statements and values as well as help with brand strategy and design.

And when it comes to naming conventions, yes, we will check if the URL is available before even suggesting it.

Technical Development

For us it’s all about merging innovation with experience, and no one team epitomizes this more than our techies. They’re even experts at dealing with the creative team, which is no small feat.

With wireframing completed, our technical team kicks into gear. This means database planning and development, front end dev, server set up and maintenance, testing, tweaking, refining, it’s all part of us.

We use AGILE to make sure all our developers are up to speed on your project, and we complete it as quickly and efficiently (that means cost effectively) as possible. Rigorous testing and adjustments are made through the prototype stages to get to the final product.

Delivery and Support

When everything is in place, bug fixing is 100% finished (it never ends), your launch strategy ready and it’s time to push the button, N3RD will continue to help deliver the platform, push it live and keep it live, whilst you’re handling all the PR and acquiring users.

When the time comes to move your team internally, we’ve got that covered too.

Business Support and Incubation

Throughout the design and development cycle, N3RD will help support you in non creative non technical areas that are your primary focus. We’ve been on both sites of the pitching room, we’ve hunted for funding and made introductions, we’ve developed business plans and refined others. Marketing strategy; well that’s the other half of our business.

We’re not just invested in building you an amazing platform, we’re invested in your success too, which means the years of experience we have at N3RD in the startup community is available for your picking.

Our new site is up, we hope you like it!

Perfection comes with drawbacks. That means, we’re never quite finished with any of our own projects including our own website where we get to tell, nay shout, to the world all the weird and wonderful things that we get to do.

N3RD's an ideas factory. Most of these ideas get used on projects for our clients, however now and again we like to keep a few for ourselves. Problem is, we never have time to execute them, so more than likely they are left on the cutting room floor (or in our case the creatives noodly brains and various Skype messages). When we do get some time, or are avoiding heading home for whatever reason, we tend to spend it working on our own brand, which is of course, quite digital.

Since N3RD was started on Nic's kitchen table back in 2009 we've had 4 different sites with varying degrees of content and imagery. Some great, some not so good. It seems that as soon as we've finished one we decide it could be better, or new techniques and technologies come along that we like, so we get cracking (like the tortoise, not the hare) on the next. And this was the case not long after our rebrand and new site launch around a year ago.

Let’s be fair, the project management on this new build has been atrocious (Dave, we’re looking at you). We didn't bother with a budget, our clients kept changing their minds, we’ve been through hundreds of amends and variations but it's safe to say we will be launching on time, mainly because the deadline keeps moving. Developers have been sitting at designer computers. Creatives think they can code. Lithuanians are teaching New Zealanders English, and the Spanish seem to have slept through most of it. But like any of our projects, what you see here truly has been a collaborative project amongst the whole team. We think it's a reflection of our values and personalities. Clean; straightforward; warm (tip, hit refresh); and focused on delivery.

So have a browse around, digest some content and let us know what you think, we hope you like it. And if not, don't worry, we're pretty likely to start a new one in a few weeks time.

Social Media For SMEs: Social Metrics

The finale to our series on social media marketing for small businesses concentrates on what metrics to analyse to measure the impact of your social media efforts on your business. Online marketing allows for tracking and measuring results in real time, which gives you the ability to improve your content strategy straightaway. Thus it is necessary to keep track of key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure you are progressing towards your goals. Below are some key metrics you should be tracking and benchmarking throughout your journey. Depending upon your goals, different KPIs will be more significant and relevant than others.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Vanity Metrics:

    Network size
The number of fans (Likes), followers, subscribers, etc. on a given network. The growth of your network size should also be tracked.

    Brand mentions
The number of times your brand has been mentioned on social networks. This number can be compared to the brand mentions of your competitors, which is known as share of voice.

    Website Traffic
The number of visitors to your website, including new visitors versus returning.

Actionable Metrics:

    Engagement
The number of times users interact with your content which includes likes, comments, shares, retweets, replies, repins, etc. Consumers that are engaged with a brand online are more emotionally connected, which can indicate a base of loyal customers who are more likely to purchase your products over your competitors and become influencers. Engagement can also indicate which types of content are more appealing to your audience as well.

    Sources of Traffic/Leads
The percentage of your website traffic and/or leads that is coming from social networks. This can be compared to visitors from direct traffic and organic/search traffic. This indicates the number of people that found your website through social networks, and can reflect which networks you may want to invest more time creating content for.

    Social Click Through Rate (CTR)
The number of times people have clicked on a link that directed them to through to your website. Growth in the CTR to your website can indicate engaging content as well as an increase in awareness.

    Conversion Rates
The percentage of people who complete a desired action. For example, if you are looking to increase email subscriptions, the conversion rate would reflect the number of people who visited your website that actually signed up to to the email subscription list. You can also track conversions of sales, downloads, installing an application, etc. A low conversion rate may be a sign of poor content or marketing efforts, and should be evaluated to improve the strategy immediately.

It is crucial to not get bogged down in vanity metrics such as number of fans and followers. While these metrics are good benchmarks to establish progress, they are not necessarily the numbers that matter. They are good indicators of how well a specific campaign is progressing, and if the content being served needs to be reassessed if numbers are remaining stagnant and not increasing. We feel good when they increase, but they do not tell us anything substantial about how our social media marketing efforts have affected our business and sales.

Actionable metrics tie specific and repeatable actions to observed results. Focus on metrics such as engagement, conversions, and sales/profits, which indicate actions and will truly aid business decisions in the future. Creating SMART goals that are measurable and time orientated will allow you to benchmark and compare your progression throughout the process.

This marks the end of our series on social media marketing for small businesses. Hopefully, you feel ready enough to take on the social sphere with confidence in a basic strategy that you can implement well, given your time resources, to expand your business. Happy social networking!

The DIGITAL AGENCY WITH A DIFFERENCE

A passionate crew of strategists, innovators, designers, marketers, developers, storytellers and absent minded inventors.

We’ve been around since 2009, helping small and large existing businesses achieve their goals for their digital spend, while also working in the start-up market, helping to create new and exciting business that never existed previously.

We’ve worked with businesses you’ve probably never heard of as well as helping build brands that are now household names and we've also teamed up with some of the most established brands in the world.

We love the diversity of our work, and our friends do too. We're lucky enough to work within the publishing, entertainment, finance and education sectors, to name a few.

If it is digital, we do it. Check out our services page to see some of the great things that we can do, although we’ve only listed the tip of the iceberg.

If you are looking for a passionate and experienced team that you’re just as likely to work with as you are to catch up at the pub, then come say hello to the geeks at N3RD.
